We from the municipality of Ruggell are very pleased to be able to present ourselves as the first guest municipality on Liechtenstein's national holiday. Down-to-earth, friendly and festive, we would like to present ourselves to give you an insight into our versatile and creative community.

Ruggell borders Switzerland to the west and Austria to the north. It is the only municipality that lies almost completely flat on the valley floor and is therefore called the bicycle village of Liechtenstein. In reference to this, the slogan on our bike bags reads, "Müar z Ruggäll fahren am liabschta vom Marga bisem Obet medm Rad." Ruggell has about 2,500 inhabitants.

Family friendly and sustainable community

All family-friendly neighborhoods can be reached by bike, each of which has its own playground. In September 2018, Ruggell was the first municipality in Liechtenstein to be certified by UNICEF with the label "Child-Friendly Municipality". Since then, we have been able to implement various projects with the involvement of children and young people.

The re-certification by UNICEF will be awarded to the municipality of Ruggell on the state holiday and we are looking forward to celebrating this with you! 

Also in 2018, Ruggell, together with Planken, became the first municipality to be awarded the "Energy City Gold" label. Environmentally conscious and sustainable action is not only deeply rooted in politics and administration, but also in the population, which supports this strong development with various measures. 

Natural and cultural diversity on the Liechtenstein Trail

By bike or on foot you can reach the Ruggeller Riet with the nature reserve on the Liechtenstein Trail. The wonderful variety of flora and fauna is unique in Central Europe - at the same time it is a place for peace and relaxation. So that we can continue to enjoy this natural diversity on our doorstep for a long time to come, we ask all visitors to observe the rules and instructions on site. 

Also on the Liechtenstein-Weg is the listed Küefer-Martis-Huus, built in 1730, which invites you to various cultural exhibitions and events. The current exhibition "Durchforsten" (thinning) not only offers a lot of information about the forest, it also invites you into the world of trees, plants and animals in real life. 

In addition to the cultural events and the nature, the inhabitants of Rugzell appreciate the active and varied club life. The clubs not only contribute to the leisure activities of the population, but also bring a great added value to the community with public events such as concerts, entertainments and sporting events.

Emerging industrial ring

Ruggell also proves to be an ideal location for 
companies and organizations. Thanks to the optimal connection to the highway, the Ruggell industrial and commercial zone is a modern and attractive place to work. In addition to the workplaces, an interesting meeting place for leisure and going out has also been created at the same location: with a hotel, casino, various restaurants and bars as well as a fitness center incl. wellness, the up-and-coming district invites guests from near and far.
